Merce Cunningham - Modern Dance Pioneer Dies

Everyone here at Warwick Arts Centre was saddened this week to learn of the death of American dancer and choreographer Merce Cunningham on 26th July 2009.

The Merce Cunningham Dance Company visited us here as part of their Choreography tour, commissioned by Dance Umbrella in 2004. Creating dance for over 60 years, his internationally acclaimed touring company of fourteen dancers performed to live music by innovative contemporary composers, with designs by leading visual
artists. MCDC’s repertory includes pieces dating from the 1950s as well as his signature sight-specific Events.
