The week in Edinburgh was, as usual, full on (14 shows in a variety of different venues including the Botanic Gardens!) but well worth the effort. Taking time away from the desk to see a great variety of work, reflect with colleagues, make new connections and re-establish old ones is necessary if we are to try and bring the best work possible to our audience of children and young people. For me, the best work of the week was that from Scotland itself. We got to see “classic” work (Cinderella and Martha) that are established successes in many countries now and haven’t lost any of their delightful attraction, and there was also some really affective new work with great performances (One Thousand Paper Cranes and The Ballad of Pondlife McGurk) that gripped their young audiences. I’m really looking forward to some of that work coming to Warwick Arts Centre in the not too distant future. Watch this space!
