Day 3 of Imaginate

Thursday 13th May

Day 3!

One of the things I love about the Imaginate Festival is that you can bank on them to programme some European eccentricity that UK companies don’t have a history of making.  We find it hard to let our (theatrical) hair down in the same way.  So today, with Mister Porcelain (Belgium), I was at a mole’s funeral in a very snug wooden structure in the middle of Edinburgh’s Botanic Gardens.  With the Porcelain family and the mole’s best friend Bruno the postman.  Do I need to say more?

Earlier we were inside the head of a ten year old as she led and re-fought the battle of Orleans with clothes and toys as she discovered her lost bravery.  The Terrific Adventures of Brave Joan Woodsword (Germany) was an excellent and mad playtime.

More UK companies, promoters and programmers need to experience such work just to see what else is possible for young audiences.
