Engine bits as part of the My Last Car set

More script came in today – our first day back in the Helen Martin Studio. It means that we’re able to attempt an ‘almost’ run through. We’re here in the studio now until the final show now so ALL the bits of set and props are moving in … just as the Butterworth Hall next door is also being transformed for some fancy ‘do’ tonight for the dignitaries of the University. It seems oddly incongruent to have dirty big engine blocks and gearing mechanisms being moved around backstage with the champagne glasses and white drapes for the dinner.

Student Volunteer Ben is assisting us today, and very ably too. He is charged with researching some Warwick/West Midlands related car facts and figures which will form part of the installation. It seems like a dry concept but I’ve been amazing myself all day with the titbits that he’s found, for instance, In the 1950s the Longbridge plant used 2.25 tonnes of nails per week just in the crates to ship their cars. Astounding eh?

After studying at Reading University and receiving a degree in Film and Theatre I ventured to Salisbury to work in Marketing at Salisbury International Arts Festival. Whilst there I also worked as part of the box office team at Salisbury Playhouse and enjoyed the small town life. Now I am back in the midlands and loving the life of a Marketing Assistant at Warwick Arts Centre. My main loves are theatre and cafe bar drinks and cakes!
