Bringing children together to make dance and music
Partners has brought together children from mainstream and special schools to work as artists with professional artists to make new works of art which they will share with families and friends.
Three partnerships have been created (each of a pair of schools) combining the talents and skills of children from mainstream and special schools. Since January, the children have worked with professional musicians Peter Churchill and Oliver Armstrong to investigate the theme of Forest – including a trip to campus to be inspired by our own (very muddy) woods. Each partnership has created a musical piece out of that investigation and the musicians are now combining those pieces to create one 30 minute work.
After the Easter holidays, the children will work intensively with dancer/choreographer Louise Katarega to make a new piece of dance to their own musical work. They’ll work with Louise in school and come here to our Studio Theatre at the end of June to give a performance to families and friends with the full support that a professional venue can give.
