Start with Art
Start with Art is a new visual art project for Years 1 & 2 in schools in Bedworth, Nuneaton and Chelmsley Wood. The project is being funded by The Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts and The Higgs Charity.
We will be working in depth with children who are likely to have had little or no engagement with contemporary visual art – developing their visual literacy and artistic sensitivities by welcoming them to our Sculpture and Colour Trails. We want them to be thrilled and excited by the works of art that they see and be inspired to work actively and with enjoyment as creative artists as they join with professional artists to make new work for permanent display in their schools that is unique, inspirational and invigorates their school.
With artist-led workshops as a springboard, we want to develop and enhance the culture towards the arts and creativity in our partner schools – giving teachers and governors new skills and confidence in working practically in the visual arts. We want staff to develop the desire to see creativity and the arts as central to an inspiring and dynamic school and find a new way of expressing their vision for their children and sharing that vision with parents and families by allowing the children to make their mark on the local community.
