Current Education Projects
Throughout the year, Warwick Arts Centre organises and runs several education projects in a variety of schools in our surrounding area. These range from two-hour workshops to three-year development projects and everything in between!
Boys2Dance - Innocence
A two-week project with Being Frank Physical Theatre and 3 local secondary schools for boys in years 7, 8 and 9. After a week of taster sessions for large groups of boys, a group of 22 were selected to take part in a weeklong intensive period creating a fantastic physical theatre performance of ‘Innocence’ for the Warwick Arts Centre’s Studio. We are building on the passion and power of this project to create a three-year boys dance development project for four local schools.
Power & Spirit
Now in its seventh year, Power & Spirit is a project with Foxford School & Community Arts College in Coventry and its feeder primary schools, creating links and developing skills for primary children. Starting with a selection of skills-based master classes led by professional artists and Foxford Creative Arts staff, the project ends with 2 days hard work to create a performance for parents and friends. Two recent productions have included a multi-media performance staged at the Jaguar Heritage Centre, called Terra Cinetica and a site-specific performance at Foxford School, involving 10 schools, called The Friend-ship.
Making Their Mark
A design project for primary and secondary school children allowing them to make their mark permanently on the new Alan Higgs Centre, Coventry. 15 design groups from the 13 schools closest to the new centre worked with professional artists to create designs, which were then transferred on to tiles. These tiles are now on the wall of the new changing rooms in the centre, making each one individual and unique.
Let’s Create!
This is a highly successful arts projects for Key Stage 2 children which has now developed to include 3 separate clusters of schools. This 3 year programme gives children the opportunity to access professional artists in theatre, dance, music and visual arts to create their own work which they share with the other schools. They also have the opportunity to visit the Arts Centre to watch performances as inspiration for their own work and perform in the Butterworth Hall in the summer term.
Silent Harmonies
Members of The Harmonie Band worked with students from a local specialist arts college to create their own music to accompany a silent movie. Starting from scratch, in just 2 days the students created their very own score using some unusual instruments and performed to family and friends. The students also watched The Harmonie Band perform at Warwick Arts Centre.
