ETO’s hugely successful production returns. In a fairy-haunted wood, lovers’ knots are tangled, and strange dreams create monstrous romances.
Only in a hilarious play performed by working men are all the opera’s tensions and enchantments eased. Michael Rosewell conducts Britten’s eerie, highly theatrical score, with a cast led by Jonathan Peter Kenny and Andrew Slater.

Congratulations on staging "Midsummer Night's Dream" at Warwick recently.
I'd like to point out a couple of difficulties for the audience. First, the orchestra drowns out the singers at times. Second, many of the words are inaudible, so the detail of the plot evaporates - I'm afraid this point applies to Oberon in particular.
It's easy to solve the first issue of course by listening to the balance from various places in
the auditorium.
The second issue would be greatly eased by the avoidance of vibrato - a technique which destroys words, and is probably unnecessary in most theatres. Unfortunately these issues are common to most opera
performances. There were similar problems with the Pegasus Opera's recent performance of Joplin's "Treemonisha" at Cheltenham.
Despite the above (!), thanks for staging the performance and I hope you enjoy good audiences at the other venues.
