CloseThere is no doubt that Malcolm Arnold’s concert march The Padstow Lifeboat must be one of the most popular brass band pieces ever written, and it has gone around the world taking the name of the small Cornish town with it. Arguably the name Kiev has also gone round the world due to a piece of music – The Great Gate of Kiev, probably the best known movement from Pictures At An Exhibition, which in turn is probably the best known work by Modest Mussorgsky.
The band is joined by guest soloists for this concert, which promises to bring a sparkle to a February evening!
Butterworth Hall
With a maximum capacity of 2000 standing or 1500 seated this concert hall has an outstanding natural acoustic and is the home of our International Concert Series, as well as the majority of our music gigs and big name comedians. Butterworth Hall has recently had a £6.9 million redevelopment and reopened in autumn 2009 .
