Human beings, in pursuit of a better life, are inclined to think that beyond the frontier there is a wonderful, promising world. And they may indeed find some succour for their longing; but in the end, very often their dream notion proves to be a chimera, an imagined beautiful reality that turns out to be false, crude and tragic.
Flamenco guitarist Paco Peña presents a unification of Spanish and African music and dance in Quimeras, a celebration of immigration and shared cultures.
The show, directed by Jude Kelly, will try to bring to life the journey of one or several people longing for a better life beyond the frontier, creating situations along the way that reflect good and bad aspects of their dreams, the reality of their lives and the interconnection with the people on the other side of the borders they cross.
“Peña’s own guitar playing is, as always, breathtakingly beautiful.” The Telegraph
