Join us on Monday 15 March for the UK premiere of the much anticipated film Dirty Oil – a powerful documentary about the devastating impact of tar sands developments on the environment and local communities in Alberta, Canada – and the implications for the world as a whole.
The film will be introduced at 6.30pm by the film’s narrator, Canadian actress and environmentalist Neve Campbell (Scream, Party of Five) via satellite live and direct from London.
Made by Academy Award-nominated director Leslie Iwerk, Dirty Oil is the first feature-length documentary film about tar sands.
Dirty Oil dramatically explores the battle between industry, government, local communities and environmentalists over the development of the oil sands of Alberta, Canada. Through the eyes of scientists, ‘big oil’ officials, politicians, doctors, environmentalists and aboriginal citizens directly impacted by ‘the largest industrial project on the planet today’, the filmmakers journey to both sides of the border to see the emotional and irreversible toll this ‘black gold rush’, fuelled by America’s addiction to oil, is taking on our planet.
This one-night-only UK premiere event on 15 March, devised by campaign partners The Co-operative, will be beamed live by satellite to selected cinemas across the country, including Warwick Arts Centre.
Following the screening audience members will be able to text questions on Dirty Oil or tar sands to an expert panel, including Paul Monaghan, Head of Ethics and Sustainable Development, The Co-operative, Leslie Iwerks, Director, DIRTY OIL (previous Academy Award winner), George Poitras, Mikisew Cree indigenous First Nation (Chief from June 1999 to June 2002), Colin Butfield, Head of Campaigns, WWF-UK.
