Few screen idols have equalled the brilliance and impact of Elizabeth Taylor. She became the byword for glamour in the ‘50s and ‘60s. She was never out of the headlines for her several marriages and tempestuous relationship with Richard Burton, a precursor to contemporary celebrities, Oscar winner, fashion icon and latterly social campaigner, she was the embodiment of the’ Star’. This Close Up Film Talk looks at the life, career and legacy of one of the last screen icons. There will be a complete screening of one of jer greatest movies, Butterfield 8, which earned her an Oscar in 1961.

Butterfield 8

A woman who has long been short on feelings falls in love with a married man in this emotional drama.

Based on the novel by John O’Hara, Butterfield 8 earned Elizabeth Taylor her first Academy Award for Best Actress.
