Gainsbourg is an enchanting glimpse at his early life, growing up in 1940s Nazi-occupied Paris. From there, Sfar depicts Gainsbourg’s rise to fame and his proclivity to drinking and women – including his affair with Brigitte Bardot and marriage to Jane Birkin.
Creating anything but a basic biopic, Sfar envelops Gainsbourg’s story with a unique and surrealistic style, incorporating puppets and cartoons to punctuate the incredible life of the man that gave the world songs such as “Bonnie and Clyde” and the scandalous “Je t’aime… moi non plus”.

I attended the Gainsbourg film last night it was fantastic, a sublime fusion of reality and fantasy. The audience fell in love with the actors. All in all, a real treat. Shame the whiff of Gitannes couldnt be smelt due to the smoking ban!
