This visually stunning exploration of Allen Ginsberg’s most famous poem has been eight years in the making. It shows Ginsberg (Franco) giving the first reading of the poem, the obscenity trial which followed its publishing and a mercurial interview with the New York Times as well as a dreamy animation of the poem.
With rising star Franco (127 hours) as the poet and fantastic support from Mad Men’s Jon Hamm and Weeds’ Mary Louise Parker, Howl is a beautifully acted delight.
