Described by its makers as "a film about friendship, faith and the weird business of growing up", Son of Rambow: A Home Movieis also a film about childhood imagination.

In 1980s England, Will Proudfoot is the good-hearted but sheltered son of a Plymouth Brethren family. The Brethren forbid radio, television and films, but Will finds escapism in his drawing, creating a wildly inventive fantasy world.

A bit of bother at school throws him together with playground hardnut Lee Carter, who shows him a bootleg copy of First Blood, the inaugural Rambo film. Blown away by what he sees, Will's imagination goes into overdrive, and soon he's helping Lee Carter shoot a camcorder epic with just a few makeshift props and an Eric Sykes cameo.

There's something quintessentially English about this film - it's charmingly eccentric, funny and warm, and moving without ever overplaying its sentiment.
