Warwick Arts Centre is delighted to be working in partnership with Coventry Jazz Festival, presenting an impressive and varied programme performing in several venues across the city.
Cipher (Dave Sturt and Theo Travis) have been developing their own original film scores since 1996 utilising contemporary digital sound-processing techniques, acoustic instruments, voices and natural sounds.
Their music features the use of looping technology, effects, improvisation and melodic composition. It is intense, emotional, often dark, spontaneous and lyrical.
The 1925 silent film version of The Phantom of the Opera, directed by Rupert Julian, is a classic adaptation of the novel by Gaston Leroux. Starring Lon Chaney in the title role, this is a masterpiece of horror that shocked cinema for decades.
This grand atmospheric melodrama with its balance of terror and tragedy provides a perfect vehicle for the dark ambient jazz soundscapes of Cipher.
This event is part of Coventry Jazz Festival.
