Joyful, life-affirming and proud of it, Mike Leigh's most enjoyable film for a long time focuses on Poppy, a 30-year-old Londoner with a bright outlook on life. She's a primary school teacher who loves her job, loves her friends, and loves life.

Both wonderfully light-footed and cleverly truthful, Leigh's use of comedy to reveal truths is reminiscent of the work that established his reputation such as Nuts in May and Abigail's Party. This is Leigh at his very best, light, smart and illuminating.
