Theatre

Following his show stealing debut at La Linea at the Royal Festival Hall in April, Melingo and his band return.

"World music needs larger-than-life characters, so Daniel Melingo, an Argentine troubadour no longer in the first flush of youth, is a gift... focused eccentricity... audacity and flair...his material is quirky and engaging... with extravagant theatricality." The Guardian

A singer, a composer, and above all, a performer from the national rock scene, Daniel Melingo has updated the lunfardo (Buenos Aires slang) aspect of tango. Apart from his own lyrics he set to music those of Enrique Cadicamo and Luis Alposta.

He has expressed a predilection for marginal stories and a devout admiration for the art of Edmundo Rivero. He grew up in a family of tango aficionados, but made his musical debut playing rock and roll.

Not until 1996 did he meet tango music again; a genre he has identified with ever since. The former rockers repertoire includes his own pieces and others by such poets as Luis Alposta, Celedonio Flores, Enrique Cadicamo, Julian Centeya, Dante Linyera and Carlos de la Pua.
