Beethoven's monumental cycle of 32 piano sonatas stands as one of the great wonders of the Classical period.

John Lill performs four of the best-known sonatas, exploring emotions that range from the violent storms of the Appassionata to the dream-like calm of the Moonlight Sonata's celebrated Adagio.
The cycle ends nominally in C minor, but actually in C major with the extended variation movement that closes Sonata No.32. Beethoven's simple, sublime theme is transformed into variations that lead, via a wild, pre-jazz, boogie-woogie, to an extraordinary soundscape of ecstatic scales and trills.
