Kings of Convenience 2009
support: Taxi Taxi
Thu 15 Oct 2009 8pm
Butterworth Hall: £18.50
Kings Of Convenience make live appearances almost as sparingly as they make records.
The Norwegian duo of Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambæk Bøe specialise in nuanced lyrics and delicate acoustic arrangements; their debut album Quiet Is The New Loud (2001) not only attracted a dedicated audience, it was almost a manifesto for a new era of finely-crafted, emotionally subtle songwriting.
Since then, though, they have made only one subsequent record (Riot On An Empty Street in 2004). Autumn 2009, though, sees a welcome burst of activity – as well as releasing a new album – as yet untitled – Kings Of Convenience will play just 2 UK gigs, one here and one at the Barbican.
It’s a rare chance to see two of the most distinctive singer-songwriters of their generation.
Butterworth Hall
With a maximum capacity of 2000 standing or 1500 seated this concert hall has an outstanding natural acoustic and is the home of our International Concert Series, as well as the majority of our music gigs and big name comedians. Butterworth Hall has recently had a £6.9 million redevelopment and reopened in autumn 2009 .

So glad this show is being put on in the Midlands. We seem to be over looked so often by credible acts. Thank you very much :) Can't wait.
Tom at 3:05am on Wed 29th Jul 2009
Genius, I cannot wait so see these guys again!
Barry at 10:05am on Tue 11th Aug 2009
This is almost too awesome! So surprised to see them here in Cov! *sniffle* No-one I know likes them-screw it, I'll go on my own. That's how good they are! :-D
Matt at 4:38pm on Tue 11th Aug 2009
Matt - if I could make the gig, I'd buy you a drink! There's no shame in going to a gig alone. It shows your passion and excellent taste. In the meantime, any one else going alone? Could this become a premier dating site for musos?
Lindsey Pope at 11:49am on Fri 14th Aug 2009
I'll be going alone as the London show has sold out - hopefully my friend will be living in Coventry by the time otherwise I'm booking a travelodge as well...yay.
Steve at 1:20pm on Fri 14th Aug 2009
I too am going to the gig alone. Not in the least bit ashamed tho. More sad to sit at home and wish you were there. :-)
Angel at 11:11am on Sun 23rd Aug 2009
It looks like I could be going solo too.I'm flying over from Dublin especially for the gig. I honestly cannot contain my excitement. I just hope the people within earshot of me at the gig appreciate them as much as I do and don't chat/talk on their phones while they are playing!
siobhan at 1:44pm on Tue 25th Aug 2009
Also going on my jack jones, I agree with Angel! but if anyone wants to feel less lonely before the gig starts and say hi, drop me an email in October: gnu1234@ymail.com
:)
Lozza at 3:47pm on Thu 27th Aug 2009
go to the gig! go to the gig!
How often do they play here - never!
judging by the sentimental claptrap videos of running through fields and the placing of hands on shoulders, the boys wont mind people turning up on their own!
Angell at 12:10pm on Fri 28th Aug 2009
Think it would be fun for all billy no mates (or, more accurately, no mates into Kings of Convenience) to meet up for a drink before the gig so I for one will be emailing Lozza in October. Hope to meet some of you there.
Angel at 2:13pm on Sat 29th Aug 2009
I agree with Angel and Lozza. It would be great for some of us to meet up before the gig. Feel free to get in touch; siobhan_eire@hotmail.com
siobhan at 12:46pm on Mon 31st Aug 2009
I also agree! It would be great to meet up with anyone else going solo, especially if you're travelling up from Bristol like me: heynonni@yahoo.co.uk
Helen at 5:46pm on Tue 1st Sep 2009
woo hoo! glad other people are interested to meet up. i'm coming up from London and just booked my train today. looking forward to meeting others with fab musical taste =D
Lozza at 8:28pm on Wed 2nd Sep 2009
This will be a special performance! They played Warwick Arts Centre in 2004 and it was one of my most favourite gigs of all time. At the end of the performance they invited members of the audience onto the stage to dance with them for their last song!
I too will be going solo to the gig. I suggest people meet up at the bar in the main arts centre building before the gig. People with such good taste in music need to meet! Email me - coolcoolcoolbighit@yahoo.co.uk
Jon at 9:12pm on Wed 2nd Sep 2009
At this rate there are going to be emails flying all over the place in October. How about we make the arrangements now and as Jon suggests meet at the bar in the main arts centre building before the gig? We need some way of recognizing each other though. I suggest wearing a silly hat (I like silly hats), so much more original than a red carnation. Or we could each carry a banana.
Angel at 8:00am on Thu 3rd Sep 2009
I'm driving north from Hampshire to see them. If they are as good as were the Whitest Boy Alive in Brighton then we are all in for a super treat. I like the idea of meeting up pre gig. Anyone interested feel free to email the-shrink@hotmail.co.uk

Hi, does anybody know what the restrictions are on photography on the day? I'm guessing not too heavy-handed.
Looking forward to it.

Hii, i just ordered my ticket, cannot wait!
Probably KoC's biggest fan. Just one problem, most of my mates hate them so I'm going alone! sigh. I live in Tamworth, does anyone know a way of getting from Tamworth to the center? Drop us an email, would be much appreciated! kingzl3y@hotmail.co.uk

Anyone know approximately when the gig will finish? Will there be a support act?
Travelling from manchester....was hoping to get the last train back at 10.30pm but I've a feeling that's gonna be ambitious..... instantly bought tickets without thinking how I was going to get home...!
Cheers :)
Peter at 12:12pm on Wed 7th Oct 2009
I thought it'll be ages until KoC comes anywhere north of London. Absolutely delighted. Can't wait.
Milan at 5:21pm on Thu 8th Oct 2009
Sounding like there's going to be quite a party atmosphere in the main bar beforehand !
i guess instead of silly hats, maybe a sign on a table saying WAC Online or something like that? I reckon I might be running late but will look out for bananas, hats and signs, as would be good to all gather before hand!!
Claire at 9:02am on Fri 9th Oct 2009
Is there a Facebook page for all the people going solo to this KOC gig ?
Mylesahead at 3:59pm on Fri 9th Oct 2009
Can't wait til Thursday as I missed their last visit to the UK. My friends had never heard of KoC and thought they sounded like toilet attendants!! Hope to get to Coventry in time to meet in the bar. My email is johnsholder@hotmail.com

I will be in the bar beforehand, yet another billy no mates but never alone amongst k.o.c fans. if the manchester guy wants a lift back north afterwards only to happy to oblige, i shall be in the bar in a red t and ancient leather with a Bridget Bardoy badge doing my best impression of a blonde Jean Paul Belmondo. I have a spare ticket also available for face value or less.LOVE YOU ALL

Just about to leave for the show...and one of my friends has bailed out on his ticket!!
If anyone needs a spare ticket then look for the man wearing a chequered shirt and brown brogues :)
See you all at the show - if it's anything like what I heard from the show in Barbican we're in for a treat!!

WOW! What a great show!
And Warwick is officially a better audience than London!
Thanks to Taxi, Taxi all at Warwick Arts Centre and of course, Erlend and Eirik for a brilliant night.
Don't be away so long!
AJB at 8:26am on Fri 16th Oct 2009
I had great night and it was a great show. I'm however slightly annoyed that I paid £18.50 for a ticket which was never checked or asked for. It begs the question, how many people in there actually paid?
To make up for it i'm going to turn up to the bill bailey show and just walk in. door 5 seems a good place to start.
Tom at 10:52pm on Fri 16th Oct 2009
I find Tom's comment very funny in a glass half full kind of way.
It was a 4 hour drive for me, about £50 in petrol plus hotel stay then got stuck on the car park that is the M6 on the way to the gig but arrived in time-just. Cant remember if anyone checked my ticket but what i do remember is going to the best gig i have ever been to (and at 53 i have been to a few)whether a few students sneeked in is matterless to me-come back soon K of C please! xx Best money i have ever spent :)
