Kings Of Convenience make live appearances almost as sparingly as they make records.

The Norwegian duo of Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambæk Bøe specialise in nuanced lyrics and delicate acoustic arrangements; their debut album Quiet Is The New Loud (2001) not only attracted a dedicated audience, it was almost a manifesto for a new era of finely-crafted, emotionally subtle songwriting.

Since then, though, they have made only one subsequent record (Riot On An Empty Street in 2004). Autumn 2009, though, sees a welcome burst of activity – as well as releasing a new album – as yet untitled – Kings Of Convenience will play just 2 UK gigs, one here and one at the Barbican.

It’s a rare chance to see two of the most distinctive singer-songwriters of their generation.

  • So glad this show is being put on in the Midlands. We seem to be over looked so often by credible acts. Thank you very much :) Can't wait.

  • Matt - if I could make the gig, I'd buy you a drink! There's no shame in going to a gig alone. It shows your passion and excellent taste. In the meantime, any one else going alone? Could this become a premier dating site for musos?

  • I'll be going alone as the London show has sold out - hopefully my friend will be living in Coventry by the time otherwise I'm booking a travelodge as well...yay.

  • It looks like I could be going solo too.I'm flying over from Dublin especially for the gig. I honestly cannot contain my excitement. I just hope the people within earshot of me at the gig appreciate them as much as I do and don't chat/talk on their phones while they are playing!

  • Also going on my jack jones, I agree with Angel! but if anyone wants to feel less lonely before the gig starts and say hi, drop me an email in October: gnu1234@ymail.com

  • go to the gig! go to the gig!
How often do they play here - never!
judging by the sentimental claptrap videos of running through fields and the placing of hands on shoulders, the boys wont mind people turning up on their own!

  • Think it would be fun for all billy no mates (or, more accurately, no mates into Kings of Convenience) to meet up for a drink before the gig so I for one will be emailing Lozza in October. Hope to meet some of you there.

  • This will be a special performance! They played Warwick Arts Centre in 2004 and it was one of my most favourite gigs of all time. At the end of the performance they invited members of the audience onto the stage to dance with them for their last song!

I too will be going solo to the gig. I suggest people meet up at the bar in the main arts centre building before the gig. People with such good taste in music need to meet! Email me - coolcoolcoolbighit@yahoo.co.uk

  • At this rate there are going to be emails flying all over the place in October. How about we make the arrangements now and as Jon suggests meet at the bar in the main arts centre building before the gig? We need some way of recognizing each other though. I suggest wearing a silly hat (I like silly hats), so much more original than a red carnation. Or we could each carry a banana.

  • I'm driving north from Hampshire to see them. If they are as good as were the Whitest Boy Alive in Brighton then we are all in for a super treat. I like the idea of meeting up pre gig. Anyone interested feel free to email the-shrink@hotmail.co.uk

Travelling from manchester....was hoping to get the last train back at 10.30pm but I've a feeling that's gonna be ambitious..... instantly bought tickets without thinking how I was going to get home...!

    Cheers :)

i guess instead of silly hats, maybe a sign on a table saying WAC Online or something like that? I reckon I might be running late but will look out for bananas, hats and signs, as would be good to all gather before hand!!

And Warwick is officially a better audience than London!

Thanks to Taxi, Taxi all at Warwick Arts Centre and of course, Erlend and Eirik for a brilliant night.

  • I had great night and it was a great show. I'm however slightly annoyed that I paid £18.50 for a ticket which was never checked or asked for. It begs the question, how many people in there actually paid?

To make up for it i'm going to turn up to the bill bailey show and just walk in. door 5 seems a good place to start.

  • I find Tom's comment very funny in a glass half full kind of way.
It was a 4 hour drive for me, about £50 in petrol plus hotel stay then got stuck on the car park that is the M6 on the way to the gig but arrived in time-just. Cant remember if anyone checked my ticket but what i do remember is going to the best gig i have ever been to (and at 53 i have been to a few)whether a few students sneeked in is matterless to me-come back soon K of C please! xx Best money i have ever spent :)
