Seth Lakeman
Thu 11 Oct 8pm
Butterworth Hall: £21.50, £19.50 + booking fee
Seth Lakeman, widely regarded as the UK’s foremost folk singer songwriter, releases his new album Tales From The Barrel House in April, and will be joining us at Warwick Arts Centre to play tunes from this, plus other gems from his critically-acclaimed back catalogue.
Having come to wider public attention following his Mercury nominated Kitty Jay album in 2005, when Seth brought folk music to a new, younger audience, he has been widely credited with breaking down perceptions and barriers often associated with folk music and its acceptance (or lack of it) in the mainstream.

We went to see Seth Lakeman last night and were very disappointed. He is such a talented artist and felt very let down by the production. We felt sorry that he was in such a big place as the Hall as the circle was completely empty and the atmosphere was not good. Obviously the theatre would have been too small so I think the band was performing in the wrong place. The sound was much too loud and we could not hear any of the words Seth was singing and his songs are all about the words - it was so sad. The band were obviously feeling the lack of atmosphere and audience reaction and towards the end of the second half after various comments from Seth and his band some folk got up and danced but it was all very laboured. The lighting also was very distracting and unnecessary for a folk band. Sorry to be so negative, but we were as I said very disappointed having looked forward to seeing Seth Lakeman and also as the tickets were pretty expensive. I think the management should look into these points as I am sure we were not the only people to feel this way about the loudness and the atmosphere.
