Set on a Middlesbrough council estate, this astonishing story is an electrifying collision of Irvine Welsh and Virginia Woolf. Streams of poetic, impassioned and often hilarious words pour from the minds of five fifteen year-olds as they negotiate a world where the adults are absent, drugs are everywhere, sex is desperate and life is both terrifying and thrilling.
Enter the dazzling, chaotic world of Adam and Eve. They depict a very different Eden. Their world is shocking, colourful, delightful, depressing. They are violent, shameless, old before their time, ruthless and their horizons reach only to their next night out. And yet they challenge and dissolve our prejudices as their brave, complex and profound inner lives are revealed. Battling for self-esteem and afraid of not knowing who they are, they are bewildered, optimistic, intelligent and daft in equal measure. The events of the story are shocking, and a clarion call to improve the lives and hopes of young people in the UK.
Funny, tragic and delightful, this is the first stage adaptation of Richard Milward’s remarkable debut novel.
“Catcher in the Rye meets the Arctic Monkeys.” The Times
Contains strong language and scenes of a sexual nature.
