August 2000. A British hunter-killer submarine is on patrol in the Arctic. The crew drill, sleep, eat, long for word from home and silently shadow their target.
Their lives are at once extraordinary and mundane – until a tragic event occurs that makes them question everything they are doing. As the tension mounts, the pressure they live under starts to take its toll.
Inspired by the Russian submarine disaster, acclaimed theatre company Sound&Fury (The Watery Part of the World and Ether Frolics) join Bryony Lavery (Stockholm) to invoke the life of submariners, fathoms below the icy seas on the fraying front line of the Cold War.
“a remarkable piece of writing, with pitch-perfect performances from all” Bristol Evening Post
“The most brilliantly immersive piece of theatre I’ve seen all year… An unforgettable homage to the men of the Kursk, and all their kind.” ***** The Daily Telegraph
“Wholly original… What is impressive is the seamless merging of human interest and scenic excitement… simply terrific.” **** The Guardian
Kursk has no conventional seating. Please mention any specific access requirements when booking.
“Thrilling and, thanks to the sensitivity of Lavery’s script and the production’s deft pacing, deeply affecting and thoughtful too” The Times
“Unmissable” London Evening Standard
“You almost have to see this production twice.” The Guardian

I really enjoyed the show, the format and concept is innovative with some very funny moments as well as some serious, thought-provoking sections. I would recommend this show to anyone.

This is a story about loss and the submarines are the vehicles (literally) that bring us to the play's heart breaking conclusion. I loved this show.

As has been mentioned, the format enhances the impact of the funny and serious moments immensely. The claustrophobia of the environment is conveyed extremely well. I very much enjoyed it.

Truly phenomenal piece of work. Clever, moving, dramatic and funny, despite the intense subject matter. I couldn't speak afterwards - I couldn't find words to do it justice!

I thought that the performance was very interesting particularly the set which can be highly credited. I thought that the storyline was weak in parts and at several places I was not sure why certain parts were included.
The sound and lighting and effects were very realistic and the claustrophobic atmosphere was all very real . I liked the overall performance and would recommend it however would not revisit it myself.
