Stan's Cafe: The Just Price of Flowers

With great clarity and humour, The Just Price of Flowers illuminates the complex mechanisms that led to 2008’s financial meltdown.
Set in 17th Century Holland, at the height of Tulipmania and inspired by Brecht, it uses two songs and twenty-one short scenes to show how borrowing a few guilders to buy a tulip bulb can escalate to fortunes riding on credit default swaps. This ‘austerity production’ is performed with origami props and recycled costumes.
Birmingham-based Stan’s Cafe has been devising thoughtful and engaging theatre since 1991. Their consistently inventive and playful approach has taken them to forefront of European experimental theatre, performing worldwide to popular and critical acclaim.
Stan’s Cafe is a regularly funded client of Arts Council England and is supported by Birmingham City Council.
