It’s Thatcher’s England and hard-nosed, go-getting businesswoman Marlene is hosting a dinner party to celebrate her promotion to MD of the Top Girls Employment Agency. Her guests, all powerful women from myth and history, make for an extraordinary gathering. The role of Marlene will be played by popular TV actress Caroline Catz, best known for her role as Louisa opposite Martin Clunes in the ITV show Doc Martin.
Bristling and bold, Top Girls is a moving and muscular study of success – the compromises Marlene has made, and what happens to those left behind.
Max Stafford-Clark directed the premiere of Top Girls in 1982. This brand new production, of a play that now celebrated as a modern classic, was a hugely acclaimed hit in the West End in 2011.
“Thrilling… Directed with absolute mastery by Max Stafford-Clark… A classic play in a classic production” **** Paul Taylor, Independent
“Splendidly funny and inventive… Witty, deeply felt and theatrically daring” **** Charles Spencer, Daily Telegraph
“Terrifyingly topical” **** Michael Billington, Guardian

If I dress as a character from the play, can I get in for a reduced price/free?
Thank you in anticipation of your reply.

I am terribly sorry to say so, but this is a poor amateur trailer for a professional production.

Such a waste of brilliant acting skills, this play is abysmal.

Have to agree with previous comment, sorry to say didn't stay after the second interval. The play is abysmal, shame because the girls are obviously talented actresses but the play is tedious. First time not enjoyed a performance of any sort at WAC though, so just really disappointed this time.

I have to disagree, this is one of my favourite plays, it's a shame you didn't stay for the third act because that's where it's all tied together and where the two plots meet. Churchill's such an intelligent writer, I can't say enough good things about the play, and particularly Out Of Joint's interpretation, completely did it justice and I loved it.

I loved the writing and thought it was very well acted and brilliantly put together. Can't agree with the those negative comments - for me this play questioned the notions of success, compliance, power, love and motherhood. What more could there be? Fantastically rich!

Well I did stay to the end, which is more than can be said for the party of people sitting next to me who didn't come back after the send break. However, it was quite simply the worst play I have ever seen.

I loved it so much, best play I've seen, seems so long ago now...fantastic cast!
