The Boys Dancing project continues to gather momentum, with the first school and youth groups sessions underway currebtly involving 19 groups. Lead Dancers are developing concepts and ideas with their groups, partners and film makers begin to scout for potential locations for dance shoots and test footage of the research and Development days has been completed.
Dave McKenna of BeingFrank, has predominantly been working in Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire and his concept is one of ‘Mobocracy’, which will see groups of boys coming together as ‘mobs’ using different sporting equipment as props, the premise being that the representational objects, in this case pool cues and bats, allows the Quiet Man in everyone to be released to express himself.

Adam Rutherford, who has been working in Shropshire has recently been out on location scouting and is interested in using an aircraft hanger as one of his shooting venues for the dancing.
It will be quite an immense space to fill and animate!
Mark Worth is developing his idea for Worcester which will look at the strength behind the quiet man and the unity that having an inner confidence would bring to a group. As such, his ideas address the activity of boys attending a football match but from the point of view of the action from the locker/changing room and how this makes them feel, how they express who they are, or ‘really’ are and what it means to be part of a team.
So, as you can see, it’s all go. More to follow as the work progresses!
