What a remarkable day! To London for a guided tour of the Olympic Park courtesy of our friends at Dancing for the Games. They are part of the West Midlands cultural programme for London 2012 and are funding our Boys Dancing project – and, as far as I’m concerned, that makes our dancing lads Olympians!
The Park is still one vast building site but complete enough to see clearly some of the remarkable buildings that will house Olympic events and the landscaping and planting that will make the Park a welcoming and comfortable place for all the ticket holders and visitors.
Apparently there will be cultural activity happening all over the Park and in the venues (both live and filmed) and the thought that some of our lads who have shown themselves to be so skilled as choreographers and dancers could be performing there or some of the Boys Dancing filmed work could be screened there is very exciting indeed and something we are going to be working towards. Fingers crossed!
Enjoy the photos – we weren’t allowed of the coach so they’re very “quick snaps out of the window” but I hope they give a good sense of the scale of things.
And to top it all – on my return I’ve heard that our bid for funding to The Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts has been approved! So Start with Dance (Colour and Music) will go ahead next year – giving 500 5 & 6 year olds from deprived areas of Nuneaton, Bedworth and Chelmsley Wood the chance to work as artists with artists in visual arts, dance and photography. Perfect end to a lovely day!!
