The artist-led jewellery workshop on Wednesday 8th June in the Mead Gallery was fab!
We learned about the artist, Julia Gandy, and saw some pictures of other artists’ fascinating jewellery and waerable art made from all sorts of things, from human toenails cast in resin, to shoes made from hair!
We then got stuck in, and turned the piles of ‘junk’ (such as washers, curtain rings, tin cans, cotton reels) into some really lovely looking pieces of jewellery.
I made a gorgeous Anni Albers style bracelet from washers and ribbon, once you got the hang of weaving the ribbon, whilst keeping the tension right, it was pretty straight forward.
Everyone made a few pieces of jewellery to take home and show off. It was a great chance to get creative and learn new skills, while meeting some like-minded people. I can’t wait for the spinning wheel workshop on 22 Jun (moved from 15th).
