In response to the beautiful work of Anni Albers, and to run alongside the exhibitions, Anni Albers: Design Pioneer and Hubert Dalwood: Landscape into Sculpture, we are celebrating the marvelous are of all things textiles!
We are holding a Knit, Stitch and Crochet Club from 12th May-16th June, 2011, every Thursday evening, 6pm-7pm.
We want people to come along and bring their sewing, knitting or crochet projects and have a cup of tea and natter whilst getting creative. We’ll provide the tea, you bring the cakes to enjoy (or share!)
We also want people to come and share their skills, and pick up new skills, so….please reply to this blog, to ask if there’s anything you want to learn (to do with knitting, sewing or crochet). similarly, please post if there is a skill you have that you are willing to share!
See you there!

What a lovely idea. I have knitted lots of items in the past but now I do scrapbooking and card making.
However I would love to learn to crochet flowers for my scrapbook pages.

Hi all,
I have recently started dressmaking and could do with a few technical tips as i am completely self taught.
Would love to learn to crochet, have always wanted to master it!
Looking forward to this! :)
Libby at 12:17pm on Thu 21st Apr 2011
I all, Thanks for all commenting on the blog, there's only a couple of weeks left until the Knit Club begins, so it's all very exciting!
The wall in gallery 1 has been buit so we have our own area to knit/crochet and natter in! I have a feeling we may be spilling out into the foyer though!
Libby, I am a textile artist, and make a lot of my own clothes, hopefully I will be able to help you.
Emma O'Brien at 11:46am on Thu 28th Apr 2011

Nicola at 4:54pm on Tue 3rd May 2011
I sew and knit - am happy to give help to anyone who needs it (although I am totally self taught). Will try and make it to a couple of the sessions at least. Would definitely be interested in doing this on a more regular basis.
Anne at 7:32pm on Tue 3rd May 2011
This just the thing for me! I knit and do cross-stitching and will be happy to pass on any skills. Would love to participate in a group like this on a regular basis.
Ritva at 9:32am on Wed 4th May 2011
I would love to come. I can knit, crochet, cross stitch and I have another lovely craft involving stitching call Temari. Not sure if I will be there next week as I will be recovering from laser eye surgery, but you never know. Maybe the week after.
Susan Tatlock at 9:13am on Thu 5th May 2011
My colleagues, Roberta, Penny and I are currently knitting the Royal Wedding - miniature models of the main characters complete with their wedding outfits, all in knit with a little crochet and sewing. We would love to include them on the wall.
Suzanne England at 9:26am on Thu 5th May 2011

Im so exited, I've been looking for something like this for a looooong time, I'm self taught in crochet been doing it for 2 years now and Im hooked if you'll excuse the pun, I've been trying to knit but am struggling quite a lot, apparently it's easier to knitters to learn to crochet than the other way round :)

I can now crochet! OK so it's very very slow but it looks pretty good and if I can learn to move my fingers a bit faster to keep the tension right, I think I might be able to make something. Lovely to hear the stories of the fantastic crocheted dresses that people made in the 60s and 70s and to see examples of parents' and grandparents' work. See you next Thursday.
