New film season: Now On Sale!
Thursday 23 February 2012
With the end of the awards season nearly in sight, here at Warwick Arts Centre we’re excited to be forging ahead with a sparkling new film programme for spring.
We kick things off with powerful financial thriller Margin Call, a prescient modern drama starring Hollywood heavyweights Kevin Spacey, Stanley Tucci and Jeremy Irons. We’ll also be screening biting black comedy Young Adult, written by Juno scribe Diablo Cody and starring Charlize Theron, and Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, featuring stalwarts of the British acting establishment Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith and Tom Wilkinson.
For those in search of gritty drama, make sure you catch Martha Marcy May Marlene which was a huge hit at Sundance, and features an astonishing performance from Elizabeth Olsen in the title role. International cinema is well-represented this season, and we will be screening a selection of the best new films from India, France, Argentina and Norway. Les Adoptés is the directorial debut from Mélanie Laurent, Trishna is an adaptation of Tess of the D’Urbervilles set in modern day India starring Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), there’s Carancho from Argentina, as well as Headhunters from Norway, an adaptation of the Jo Nesbo novel.
We’re also excited to be screening Bel Ami, the film debut of Warwick Arts Centre regulars Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, joint Artistic Directors of the theatre company Cheek by Jowl, who most recently delighted audiences with their adaptation of ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore back in February.
And if you missed anything from last season, don’t panic! We’ll also be giving you repeat opportunities to see audience favourites The Artist, Carnage, The Help, The Iron Lady, Shame, The Descendants, and following on from our preview screening in February, A Dangerous Method.
