Launch of International Dance Festival Birmingham 2012
Wednesday 16 November 2011
Next April, the streets of Birmingham will come alive with dance to celebrate the UK’s biggest dance festival – the International Dance Festival Birmingham (IDFB). Co-produced by DanceXchange and Birmingham Hippodrome, IDFB will be delivered in partnership with a range of arts organisations and venues in the region, including Birmingham Hippodrome, Town Hall, Ikon Gallery, mac, Sampad and Bullring.
As part of IDFB, Warwick Arts Centre is pleased to host Dave St-Pierre’s controversial show Un peu de tendresse bordel de merde! (A Little Tenderness for Crying Out Loud). This award-winning Canadian choreographer has been a major force on the contemporary dance scene for over five years, and has become renowned for his provocative pieces. This show explores different forms of tenderness between human beings, using humour to tackle taboo subjects as its 20 naked dancers take the audience on an emotional journey. This show will be on sale from 2nd December.
“St-Pierre is a provocateur, but what gives his productions integrity is their underlying sincerity: they demonstrate both the ugliness and the beauty of our basic instincts.” Toronto Life.
The festival takes place across a vartiety of venues and public spaces across Birmingham and the West Midlands, featuring a new commission for Birmingham Royal Ballet by US choreographer Jessica Lang, Breakin’ Convention produced by Sadler’s Wells and a whole host of internationally acclaimed performers. Over the May Bank Holiday weekend the Family Weekend takes over mac and Canon Hill Park, offering workshops and performances tailored for the whole family’s enjoyment.
