People of Coventry - Freeman Dance School Needs You!
Tuesday 31 January 2012
This March, ground-breaking contemporary dance takes centre stage at Warwick Arts Centre, with the arrival of Blanca Li and her dazzling new show Elektro Kif. Blanca Li has launched a competition in conjunction with the Southbank Centre in London, entitled Dance Your City, where dance troupes from across the country have been encouraged to submit videos of themselves performing in front of local landmarks.
Six finalists, as voted for by the public via the Dance Your City Facebook Page, will dance it out in front of a panel for the chance to perform at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London’s Southbank, and one young group of fleet-footed dancers from Coventry are in the running for this amazing opportunity.
The Freeman Dance School is based in Coventry, and was set up in 1982 by Jill Freeman. Eighteen boys aged between 7 and 11 are representing the city by submitting a video of them dancing to ‘The Specials’ hit single ‘Gangsters’. Take a look at the video of the boys body popping in front of the city’s landmarks:
Jill Freeman, principal of the school, said: “We had a brilliant day filming all around Coventry, and it was an incredible experience for all the boys! The boys would love the chance to go and perform in the finals in London, so we are asking the people of Coventry to get behind us and vote!”
If you’d like to support the Freeman Dance School in their endeavour, log onto Facebook and cast your vote! The competition closes on Mon 6 Feb.
Then all that remains is to get yourself down to the Warwick Arts Centre to witness the phenomenon that is Elektro Kif.
