Ping! in the Press

Monday 10 October 2011

You may have noticed mention of Warwick Arts Centre in The Telegraph, The Guardian and BBC Online in relation to the New Music 20×12 Cultural Olympiad Composers as dates for the first set of premieres have been announced today by PRS for Music Foundation. Warwick Arts Centre is delighted to be involved in this ambitious and wide-ranging project with Ping! a unique work involving a string quartet and four table tennis players written by composer Joe Cutler and scored for the Coull Quartet, the Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Warwick.

Ping! will take place as a promenade performance at Warwick Arts Centre on 3 March 2012 and will explore the distinct sounds and rhythms that table tennis players can create. Tickets will be free but will need to be booked in advance so watch this space for when tickets go on sale. All of the 20×12 pieces will then be performed across the weekend 13-15 July 2012 at the Southbank Centre.

The New Music 20×12 Cultural Olympiad Composers is part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, involving some of the UK’s leading composers from across a range of music genres. Each composer has been commissioned to capture the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games with a piece of music 12 minutes in length.
