RSC Pilot Submissions

Submissions wanted for RSC's PILOT Night

Thursday 09 February 2012

PILOT Nights, the initiative supported by Warwick Arts Centre that helps to generate new theatre in the West Midlands, will soon be a hosting a night at the RSC in conjunction with their World Shakespeare Festival.

PILOT Nights give theatre-makers the inspiration and the encouragement needed to kick-start new work, and the opportunity to showcase untested ideas in front of an audience. The PILOT team are putting out a call to all West Midland theatre artists and companies, asking them to submit ideas based on the concept of how Shakespeare’s work has infiltrated modern culture:

“Responses to the brief can be wide ranging and could explore big thematic ideas or a single stage direction. Ideas can be dark, satirical, visual, humorous or irreverent. The performance should avoid using Shakespeare’s text in a literal sense and focus instead on using his words, ideas or stories as a starting point for a new theatrical idea.”

Once the applications have been received, five finalists will be selected, and each will receive £500 in order to help them develop their performance idea. They will also receive help and advice from RSC and PILOT staff, and will be invited to perform their work at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon on July 12.

Read the full brief here, and fill out the application form online.
Closing date for applications is the Mon 12 March at 12pm.
