We are pleased to announce that the University of Warwick Art Collection has been nominated as part of the Contemporary Art Society’s annual award. The winning gallery willl receive £60,000 to commission an artist to make a new contemporary work for their existing collection, generously supported by the Sfumato Foundation.
The University of Warwick Art Collection is proposing to commission artist Katie Paterson. Katie Paterson’s artistic process is cross-medium, multi-disciplinary and conceptually driven, with an emphasis on nature, ecology, geology and cosmology.
Sarah Shalgosky, Curator of the University of Warwick Art Collection and Mead Gallery, said:
“The University of Warwick is very pleased that its proposal to work with Katie Paterson has been shortlisted. Katie Paterson’s work has a direct relationship to academic enquiry. She reconnects science to its eighteenth century roots in natural philosophy through her exquisitely considered, poetic work”

The winner of the award will be announced on Mon 14 Nov 2011.
