Artsmark

ARTSMARK is the creative quality standard for schools and education settings, awarded by Arts Council England, recognising their commitment to high quality arts and cultural education.

WARWICK ARTS CENTRE is proud to be supporting schools and education settings on their Artsmark journey, inspiring children and young people to create, experience, and participate in great arts and culture.

We offer education settings who are working towards, or currently hold an Artsmark Award, the following opportunities:

SCULPTURE TRAILS

The University of Warwick has a large collection of modern and contemporary art spread across campus that can be used to help you on your Artsmark journey. We have developed a Sculpture Trail to give schools access to the collection with the support of Visitor Assistants who can stimulate reaction through observation, drawing and discussion over the course of a 2 hour visit. There is plenty to stimulate young minds from the carved marble of Dark at Heart by Peter Randall-Page to the bird-like painted aluminium of Op Mobile no. 10 by Nechemia Azaz. We can also offer an extended visit that includes a hands on making activity linked to the Sculpture Trail designed by our Creative Learning team and delivered by our Visitor Assistants. If you have a particular learning outcome in mind for your trip, just let us know and we can make sure that this is explored during your time with us. Sculpture Trails can be booked on days to suit you so please get in touch to discuss the options.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Warwick Arts Centre offers year 10 & 11 students a unique opportunity to work at the Midlands’ largest arts centre and experience the many departments and roles which pull together to create a varied and exciting programme across its main venues.

We offer two one-week placements each year, one in May/June and one in October/November. We’re sorry but we can’t offer placements outside of these times, including in July as this is during University vacation. The week long placement offers students the opportunity to work with box office, marketing, creative learning and front of house and to see shows from a technical point of view and from the auditorium! Warwick Arts Centre is not a producing venue which means that we are not able to offer students the opportunity to work with costume, make-up, set design, directing, acting or producing.

We are looking for enthusiastic young people, who are outgoing and have a real interest in the behind the scenes business of an arts centre and all that it involves. Ability to use a computer and internet are beneficial as well the confidence to work with the public.
You can find more application details and deadlines here.

TAKE PART IN ART

Our Take Part in Art project was highly successful in introducing schools to the concept of ‘See, Make, Share’ in which they ‘see’ some visual arts, ‘make’ their own responses to the artworks with the help of a professional visual artist back in school, and then ‘share’ their work with other students with a sharing event in school. While the funded Take Part in Art project is no longer live, we can work with you to create a costed version for your school. This is not limited to visual arts and will work with theatre, dance and music also.

AGE: Perfect for all ages from EYFS to KS4
ARTFORM: Multi-artform
COST: Costs vary depending on the activities, length of the project and artist fees.
CONTACT: Please get in touch with creativelearning@warwick.ac.uk to discuss your requirements.

We are thrilled to congratulate Clapham Terrace Primary School, who worked with us on the Arts Active Network project, on successfully gaining their Platinum Artsmark Award after implementing two years of change making arts practices across the school.

“With other South Leamington CV31 postcode schools, Clapham Terrace Primary and Nursery School, worked alongside various external providers to deliver a two-year arts programme which culminated in a hugely successful community based Arts Festival in July 2017. Through the Arts Active Network project, we fostered a close working partnership with Warwick Arts Centre who generously and continuously shared their expertise to enable the students and teachers to grow their own knowledge and skills base. Clapham Terrace’s award of the Platinum Level Artsmark is in no small part due to the partnership that we have developed with Warwick Art Centre. The knowledge and opportunity that the Creative Learning team offer to schools is invaluable in the Artsmark journey.”

- Mrs Lisa Clarke (Clapham Terrace EYFS & Arts Senior Leader)
