Sat 30 Nov 10am – 6pm
Sun 1 Dec 10am – 4pm
It’s time to get in the Christmas spirit! On Sat 30 Nov and Sun 1 Dec, the whole of Warwick Arts Centre will be given over to a weekend of Christmas-themed music, performances, food, workshops and craft activities. From flying workshops to snowball table tennis and gingerbread decorating to family theatre, it’s a jam-packed festival guaranteed to keep the whole family entertained – and many activities are free.
Visitors can browse through a bustling food and craft market in the Piazza and outside our iconic Koan entrance. Filled with winter-warming delights and gorgeous Christmas gifts, it’s the perfect opportunity to pick up a few presents for the family.
Step inside and enter a winter wonderland. Be part of a living snow globe in the foyer, join in at the gingerbread decorating table and order an indulgent round at the hot chocolate candy bar. The Bookshop will be hosting a book corner and a Make & Take creative table and there’ll also be free crafts workshops and live music to entertain and amuse all day long.
For those in search of something a bit more active, the University’s Sports Centre has the perfect answer with a raft of fun-filled Winter Themed Games. With special races, snowball table tennis, climbing and swimming, there’s something for everyone.
There’ll be shows and performances aplenty across the weekend at Warwick Arts Centre too. Lo-fi technological wizardry from Kid Carpet and The Noisy Animals brings laughs, silliness, music and deep space to the studio with Blast Off! and there’s also a chance to make music with one of the best bands for children in the land in the Blast Off! Workshops. Pop inside the Helen Martin Studio and Take to the Sky with a flying workshop that gives you everything you need to step into the shoes of your favourite superhero, plus there will be Christmassy short films in the cinema, and even a fancy dress Christmas Spectacular concert!
Finally, the weekend marks the start of this year’s Christmas show for children at Warwick Arts Centre. Direct from a sell-out smash hit season in London’s West End, Room on the Broom is an Olivier Award nominated adaptation for the stage from the best-selling book by Children’s Laureate Julia Donaldson MBE and Axel Scheffler – a spellbinding adventure from the creators of The Gruffalo! In this wonderfully catchy tale, the witch and her cat are flying happily along on their broomstick when a stormy wind blows the witch’s hat, bow and wand away into the night. With the help of a daft dog, a beautiful bird and a friendly frog, her belongings are recovered. But this broomstick’s not meant for five and – CRACK! – it snaps in two! When a hungry dragon appears, who will save the poor witch? And will there ever be room on the broom for everyone?
It’s an unmissable line-up of events that’ll melt the heart of any Scrooge. Start the festive season in style at the Family Weekend!
