Family Day Journeys from Legends to Lightyears

Warwick Arts Centre’s Summer Family Day will take children on an exciting adventure from the mystical world of legends through to the lightyears of space on Sun 4 Jun, 10am – 5pm.

Warwick Arts Centre, Warwick Sport and the University of Warwick campus will be open to families to enjoy a programme packed to the rafters with live shows, sport events and many free creative activities.

Kicking off the family theatre programme will be Les Petits Theatre’s The First Hippo on The Moon; an all singing, all dancing production of David Walliams’ celebrated children’s book. With giant jungle puppets voiced by a troop of wonderful actors, the touching story is brought to life in a riot of colour and action. In the Studio, Mashi Theatre will take audiences on a journey through to *The Tales of Birba*l. A magical show of simple story telling, all punctuated with puppetry and song, will take the audience on an adventure full of fun and play.

The campus area around Warwick Arts Centre and the Sports Centre will be packed full of activities including a Quidditch field, an outdoor market, a storytelling yurt, picnic areas, Robin Hood archery and space tennis. Children will be able to explore outside and inside the venue by following our Treasure Hunt.

Inside Warwick Arts Centre families will be able to choose from a wide range of free creative activities. There will be Space Artefacts workshops and Stargazer sessions for children to create their own moon rock or telescopes, and a room dedicated to making a planet. What’s more, the Etherington Brothers will be on hand to impart their comic book knowledge and help youngsters create their very own stories.

The weekend activities are organised in collaboration with Warwick Sport will be hosting a range of exciting events and activities. The Escape Room will pit two rival teams against each other and time and each other in a race to solve a mythical based puzzle and unlock the room. Children will be able to train for the Family Day version of the 12 Labours of Hercules or head to the swimming pool to listen to tales of Poseidon and then try out swimming as a mermaid or a merman.

The Arts Centre Café Bar will be serving delicious food such as homemade crepes and there will be a Unicorn & Rocket Cupcake Decoration stall. The outdoor market will also be offering scrumptious street food and a chance to enjoy the summer sun in our picnic area.
