October half-term is nearly upon us and Warwick Arts Centre has a great programme in store, full of brilliant shows, free creative workshops and a brand new point-winning scheme!
It all starts in the Mead Gallery, which will open its doors for a whole range of creative and free activities inspired by the current exhibition, Kaleidoscope. On Sun 22 Oct you can make sculpture while listening to 60s music and from Mon 23 to Fri 27 Oct the official Creative Week takes place and is packed full of activities including: decorating bags, sketching your own print, creating your own kaleidoscope and so much more in the Creative Space.
There’s also plenty of wonderful shows to see! On Tue 24 and Wed 25 Oct bring your favourite teddy bear for an adventure during Your Toys travel Around the World in 80 Days in a spectacular performance coming directly from the West End on Tue 24 – Thu 26 Oct; relive the classic story of Jack and the Beanstalk on Thu 26 & Fri 27 Oct, as told by Cbeebies star Patrick Lynch.
And if you are looking to get more from your visit, we have plenty of free activities to do before or after each performance: bring your toy to meet Snow Mouse, the star of our Christmas show (Tue 24 & Wed 25 Oct); make an air balloon in the Mead Gallery or explore the Around the World in 80 Sculptures Trail around campus (Tue 24 – Thu 26 Oct); discover plants that are larger than life with the help of the University’s Life Science Department (Thu 26 & Fri 27 Oct).
Finally, our half-term activities finish with a Halloween-themed weekend: there will be a special screening of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas on Sat 28 Oct and an opportunity to make your own Day of the Dead mask in the Mead Gallery’s Creative Space on Sun 29 Oct.
Kate Sayer, Head of Creative Learning, is extremely excited about this year’s programme and is proud to announce STAMP IT, a brand new point-winning scheme. She says “We have put together a host of family activities related to our shows and exhibitions this autumn, which will be available over October half-term and the Christmas period. Children are encouraged to take part as much as possible by collecting stamps from each session to fill the Warwick Arts Centre STAMP IT Book, which they will be able to collect from our Box Office. Once the Book is full, children will be able to benefit from a 20% discount* on selected Autumn and Christmas Family shows, including Where’s My Igloo Gone?, The Noise Next Door, Snow Mouse and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. We want to engage kids and their family creatively as much as possible and we hope that this fun-filled programme will make that possible.”
Visit our half-term pages for more information.
*Each completed Stamp It! book can be exchanged for 20% off one child ticket for performances of Where’s My Igloo Gone?, The Noise Next Door, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt or Snow Mouse.
