Throughout October I have been working within Warwick Arts Centre’s Creative Learning team as part of a year-long apprenticeship learning about the key departments across the organisation. During this placement I have been involved with a variety of the inspiring activities that Creative Learning facilitate, such as Humans at Work – an exciting collaborative exploration into the history of working life in Coventry; Youth Theatre – practical performing arts group sessions designed to build young people’s skills; as well as helping out with some of the brilliant family arts activities that the department offer.
I recently sat in on a music workshop family session and it was so lovely to see people learning, playing and making memories together. Many of the participants were picking up instruments they had never seen before, so it was wonderful to see their excitement and intrigue unfolding as they heard the sounds and then made music for themselves!
I am passionate about encouraging engagement with the arts and making educational opportunities accessible to communities & families, so working with the Creative Learning team has been incredible as this is a huge part of their ethos. I have also acquired a unique insight into the significant work that is being done to ensure that the arts centre’s varied programme of theatre, dance, music, film & art are supplemented with thought-provoking experiences.
I would definitely encourage people to visit the Creative Learning space, keep an eye on the department’s events and spread the word to others because it is a fantastic way for people to tap into their talents, make connections and gain access to one of a kind happenings that you won’t forget!
