Festive Family Day promises a sprinkle of winter magic

Posted on

Our ever-popular Family Day returns on Sun 1 Dec, with a theme of Winter Wonderland. Featuring a packed programme of activities for families, the day includes free events for all ages.

Children from as young as two-years-old can enjoy storytelling, face-painting, Christmas craft-making and interactive shows. Meanwhile, drumming workshops and hands-on experiments exploring the science of winter (led by members of Warwick Manufacturing Group) ensure older family members are also thoroughly entertained and engaged.

Elsewhere, boisterous choirs and energetic dancers perform across Warwick Arts Centre and The University of Warwick’s impressive new Oculus building. The University’s recently opened Sports and Wellness Hub is also showcasing its superb facilities, with wall climbing, tennis, swimming, and seasonally-themed activities to get everyone moving.

There’s also a chance to create colourful rangoli floor art, and adorn yourself with a henna tattoo.

With the majority of events free, a rolling programme of activities runs throughout the day, from 10am to 5pm, while a Christmas street food market ensures no-one goes hungry. Car parking is also free too.

Samina Beckford, Warwick Arts Centre’s Head of Creative Learning, says: “We are really excited by our Winter Family Day programme. We’ve made sure we’re including a wide range of activities – from fantastic workshops, to inspiring performances – so everyone will find something to enjoy, whatever the weather!”

The day also coincides with two performances of Warwick Arts Centre’s Christmas show, Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas. The red-suited, bearded chap will be getting ready for the busiest night of his year in a show full of live music, songs and playful puppetry. The show is suitable for ages 3+ (and anyone who loves Father Christmas).

The full Family Day programme will be announced soon. For more information and for updates, check the website.
