Based on a remarkable true story, Mia Wasikowska plays Robyn Davidson, an Australian woman who decided to undertake a 2,000 mile trek across the Outback with four camels and her dog.

Setting out from Alice Springs in 1978, her story is picked up by the National Geographic, who insist on sending photographer Rick Smolan (Adam Driver) out to meet her periodically along her route. Over the course of nine months filled with several near death experiences and a tempestuous relationship that develops with Rick, Davidson’s journey became the talk of the nation.
