Boys Dancing is in its fourth year and is a West Midlands-wide project funded by Arts Council England and run by the Education Department at Warwick Arts Centre.

As part of this programme of activity, over 200 lads from schools, youth centres and a Further Education College in Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire have been working with professional dancers to make a brand new dance work – ARTFUL DODGERS. The boys have created their own choreography while investigating the theme of “Avoidance” and have created new work that is fresh, unique, lively and definitely their own.

Avoidance: the act of avoiding or shunning; keeping clear of, keep away from, steer clear of, pass up; evading and preventing. It is the art of the dodge, a side step, to tiptoe or dance around the truth. The alternative to avoiding is to tackle head on, challenge, confront, undertake, engage in or deal with.

Giving them the biggest space in the Arts Centre, the Butterworth Hall, lads from all 20 groups will work together to create an arena-style performance, with audience seated all the way around the action in the balcony seats. There will be moments of duets and small group work alongside sections where all 200 lads will dance together.

A performance not to be missed, and proof that dance is most definitely for boys!
