This superb drama based on the true story of a shooting of an African American by a transport police officer features a standout performance from Michael B. Jordan (TV’s The Wire).

It’s New Year’s Eve 2008, the young and outgoing Oscar (Jordan) is trying to get his job back, look after his young family and keep to the straight and narrow all the while sorting out plans to see in the New Year.

A heart-wrenching account made all the more effective by the understated and naturalistic performances from the cast and the inclusion of the actual footage of the incident (which was caught on camera phones by members of the public).

“A confident, touching, and, finally, shattering directorial debut.” The New Yorker
