Continuing our James Dean retrospective, the 1956 classic Giant returns to the screen, co-starring Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson. In his final film, Dean plays Jett Rink, a young uneducated ranch-hand who works on the sprawling Texas property of Jordan “Bick” Benedict (Hudson).
Bick brings home his new wife Leslie (Taylor) to the ranch where she soon upsets the status quo, particularly with Bick’s strong-willed sister Luz. When Bick’s sister dies in a horse-riding accident, it’s discovered she has left a piece of land from the ranch to Jett, which makes him even richer than his former boss when he strikes oil.
Over the course of two generations, the relationship between Jett, Bick and Leslie unfolds, taking in issues of race, love and loyalty that all add up to a true Hollywood epic.
