In early 1960s London, barrister Melville Farr (Bogarde) seems to be set on the path to success, with a streak of won cases and a loving marriage to his wife (Syms). However, when blackmailers link Farr to a young gay man (McEnery), everything Farr has worked towards is threatened as the truth of his homosexuality starts to reveal itself in the midst of Britain’s anti-sodomy laws. But instead of giving in, Farr decides to fight for his freedom.
