Speaking in public is many people’s worst nightmare. The differences between conversation and presentation demand that the speaker communicate in a more formal style which can feel unnatural. The pressure to ‘perform’ is why speaking in public can be such a stressful experience that affects the very muscles you need for effective communication.
This masterclass in public speaking will help you develop some skills sight-reading and in how you use your body, breath, voice and articulation to manage nerves, to communicate more effectively and deliver text with more clarity and confidence.
Caroline Hetherington trained as an actress at Rose Bruford College of Speech & Drama and did her MA Theatre Arts at Goldsmiths College. She graduated from the MA Voice Studies at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama in 2003 and has since taught voice and accent skills at many drama schools including LAMDA, Guildhall, East 15, University of Minnesota, Birmingham School of Acting, MMU and LIPA.
