The Classroom of Creativity

The Classroom of Creativity brings artists, teachers, pupils and educators together to design creative activities, putting educators at the centre of our work with schools.

About The Classroom of Creativity:

The project enables a shared and collaborative learning forum. The collective aim is to embed creativity into the curriculum, whether that be at school, home, or at the Arts Centre.

We're thrilled to announce that, after a successful second year, a new school will join our 2025/2026 programme. Which now means we have four brilliant partner schools. They are: Holbrooks Primary, Templars Primary, Southfields Primary and new for this year, Charter Primary. We are thrilled to be working with such fantastic schools for our third year.

Two brand new Artists are leading and curating our workshops; they are Sarah Taylor Silverwood and Gaby Songui.

About the artists:

Sarah Taylor Silverwood

Sarah Taylor Silverwood is a Birmingham-based artist who grew up in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.

Her drawing-led practice spans animation, textiles, ceramics, sculpture and print. Blending making, storytelling and collaboration, she creates work for exhibitions, public spaces and the home.

Often returning to familiar narratives, she uses drawing to reanimate them while continually experimenting with techniques and materials to develop her ideas.

Gaby Songui

Gaby is a freelance writer, storyteller, and arts facilitator who loves running workshops for all ages. Her workshops are often multidisciplinary and use tools such as circus, drama and crafts to tell stories.

Join Gaby for a series of multidisciplinary storytelling workshops which explore themes of joy, movement and home.

Sarah will deliver workshops for Holbrook Primary and Charter Primary, and Gaby will deliver for Templars and Southfields.

The aim:

Working on this year-long project enables us to track the impact of creativity across an extended period. Throughout the year, we will host a series of workshops and gallery visits at the Mead Gallery and at their schools. The Classroom Of Creativity aims to improve the artistic, personal and social development of these fantastic young people.

Children need more opportunities to meet artists and more time to be creative. It is up to us to engage their creative minds.
