What dreams may come… night falls, and five composers let the darkness speak. Ernest Bloch hears quiet poetry, Samuel Barber and Matthew Arnold ask the deepest of questions, and Henryk Gorecki sings out with all the passion you’d expect from the composer of the famous 3rd Symphony. But Alexander Borodin’s thoughts turn to love – and no string quartet has produced as many pop hits as his gloriously tuneful Second! First, though the Coulls join forces with the great British baritone Roderick Williams for the world premiere of a new song cycle by one of British music’s most haunting musical landscape-painters: the wonderful Sally Beamish.
