Emily Portman will be showcasing new, original music, a crystalisation of her award-winning songwriting, with her darkest and most subversive creation yet. Delving into the treasure trove of British folklore, Emily explores recurring and mutating themes in tales of family life – and death.

This new writing plays with the tension between the magical and the everyday; creating a netherworld that lies a layer beneath the northern cityscapes of Emily’s home. The timeless tales upon-which Emily draws unfold within more personal narratives after the birth of her daughter and death of her stepmother.

The trio, featuring Emily, Lucy Farrell and Rachel Newton bewitches audiences with sirenic harmonies and haunting arrangements for harp, concertina, banjo, strings and saw.

The Emily Portman Trio are:
Emily Portman: vocals, concertina, banjo
Lucy Farrell: vocals, viola, saw
Rachel Newton (The Shee): vocals, harp
